As a newbie to ebiz its often difficult to work your way through all the various business models available to a would be internet entrepreneur. There is practically no end to the types of business you can do in an online business. But how to decide? Which business is best for you? What business has the best chance to make money?
This article is the first of three and the goal is to explain several of the basic internet business models. Part Two will address the very core business concepts common such as products, marketing and technology that apply to pretty much any online business. Part Three will discuss pros and cons of each and hopefully help you in your investigation of a possible eBiz for you.
The basic business models that we will examine:
Auction programs such as eBay, Bidz, Ubid and many are others like them are marketing through a consolidated storefront. Auctions bank on the excitement and competitive instincts of buyers to provoke that beyond common sense response and buy. These auctions take a percentage of the sales for hosting the site.
Blogging is not really a “business model” per se. It is more about marketing but we mention it here because you will see plenty of schemes, ebooks, and articles claiming to make you dollars for blogging. Lets face it unless you are an exceptionally gifted or well known individual, not many people are willing to give you money for what you give out free on a blog. With persistence and dedication you could very well become a syndicated blogger but not a good idea to decide to make your fortune off of. We will talk more about blogging in the marketing area of Part two and three.
Dropshipping is where you find some wholesalers who want others to market and sell their products for them. Rather than spend large amounts of time and money doing advertising and marketing, they prefer to let the independent marketeer or estore do the work for them. This is very similar to Affiliate programs except the compensation is based on profit margin that you carve out from the wholesale cost and what you sell the products for.
eBooks and software marketing is preferred by many because there is literally no inventory or physical product to worry about. No shipping, no storage, no problems
Services are more work for pay type businesses that include claims processing, transcription, rebate processing, surveys and others. These businesses are not technically online marketing businesses but are mentioned here since the work and assignments are typically conducted online.
Web development and programming are services business only much more technical. There is still some degree of pay for performance but combine automated systems, templates, and multiple clients this can turn into a true money maker.
